Final Predictions for the 92nd Annual Academy Award Nominations
On Monday, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will unveil their nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards. The race is brimming with A-listers, worthy contenders, and controversy. Here, I take a deep dive into the races for the top eight awards.
Last year’s Oscar ceremony left a bit to be desired. Okay, in all honesty, I kind of hated it. The domination of Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody, two highly problematic films of mediocre quality, offset the richly deserved wins by Regina King, Spike Lee, Olivia Colman, and Alfonso Cuaron. And count me among those who was not in love with the host-less telecast. I found it workmanlike and joyless. But obviously I will keep coming back every year, because I have been following the Oscars since Entertainment Weekly became my bible as a 10-year-old.
One of the truly striking things about this year is the number of A-listers involved. My list of potential nominees below includes the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Martin Scorcese, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez, Quentin Tarantino, Robert DeNiro, Nicole Kidman, Al Pacino, Adam Sandler, Joe Pesci, Scarlett Johannson, Antonio Banderas, and Renee Zellweger. There are also some bona fide blockbusters in the race for the top awards, with Joker, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, and Knives Out…
